Amá plot
This documentary explores how the systematic sterilization program of Native Americans in the 1960s and 1970s—a policy that resulted in the eradication of an entire tribe—affected the lives of several people. At its center is Jean Whitehorse, a Navajo woman who struggled with poverty, abuse from multiple partners, and dependency issues throughout her life. She was also talked into tubal surgery as a young woman. The documentary also shows others who underwent the procedure, depriving them of the chance to build a family within their community and causing emotional devastation that lasted for generations.
