16-year-old Benno lives in a West Berlin youth center and is adopted by the entrepreneurial couple Lohmann. Benno starts training as a cook, but feels increasingly uncomfortable in his new home. The striking mildness, the exaggerated civic sense and the understanding of his new parents shown to him are abhorrent to him. Closer to him are petty criminal Sigi and Lohmann's adopted daughter, Gaby.
