"He was worth more dead than he ever was alive... but not to me. I was Gary Gilmore's brother."

January, 1977. Gary Gilmore will be the first murderer in 10 years to pay the death penalty. His youngest brother Mikal tries to prevent the execution, although it will take him to get to know his brother better, as he hadn't seen him in years. Together they discover that they both had a rough childhood, son of a brutal father, raised in a family that has had to do with death, religion and superstition. Outside the prison, the press got wind of the case and sets off a media frenzy, proving that Gary is innocent. The seconds tick away and Gary waits for fate to strike...
