Former cop Choucas (Alain Delon) works as a private detective in Paris, along with his mysterious partner Tarpon and secretary Charlotte. One day he is visited by an elderly woman, Isabel Pigot, who asks him to investigate the disappearance of her blind daughter Marthe. Choucas takes the initially standard case, but soon comes to the conclusion that he has ended up in a deadly game. First, he is attacked by a mysterious stranger, then Isabel Pigot is shot and then blamed for the murder of a police commissioner...
