Attorney Portia Merryman defends Elizabeth Manners, a woman on trial for the murder of her beloved Earle Condon. Portia herself once had an affair with John Condon, Earle's father. Since the relationship between her and John also did not run smoothly, Portia can put herself all too well in Elizabeth. John got custody of their son in an annoying way. Portia will do anything to get Elizabeth free.
