"ARE CHAIN GANG MEN REAL HEROES of ROMANCE?"
Barney Slaney, a railroad engineer, has brought his train to a halt near the inmate rail workers' work area overseen by his childhood enemy Ed Perkins. Perkins hints that Barney's beautiful wife, Marybelle, has another husband. One night shortly after, Barney goes home early to find Marybelle with Grover Perkins. Barney attacks Grover. Later that night, Barney visits his father to tell him that he killed Grover and Marybelle. During his trial, the judge is merciful and sentences Barney to lifelong hard labor as a rail worker instead of hanging.
