Inherent Vice plot

"Love usually leads to trouble."

Doc Sportello is a private detective in 1960s Los Angeles. One day his ex shows up at the door with the news that the billionaire she is in love with is going to be kidnapped. Sportello dives into the case and before he knows it, he becomes entangled in a bizarre web of motives, dealing with surfers, con artists, drug addicts, a murderous loan shark, an undercover saxophonist, and finally a mysterious entity known as the Golden Fang.
