In Nome della Legge plot
The town of Capodarso, Sicily. The Baron Lo Vasto does not want help from the mob boss Passalacqua to recover his stolen mules. At the station, the new judge Schiavi arrives and he meets the departing judge Pisani. Schiavi is young, but he is Sicilian and intends to change the old ways. Aleo, a bandit, is shot in the city. Before dying, he refuses to name his killer, but makes a strange face when he sees Messana in the doorway. Schiavi discovers that much of the city's population is out of work because the mine is closed. The mine belongs to the beautiful wife of Lo Vasto, but the latter exploits them. Why is he keeping the mine closed despite the old court order telling them to reopen it? Schiavi goes to investigate.
