"Steve Rollins... his guns... his vengeance... alone on the Bay-Front!"
When ex-cop Steve Rollins (Alan Ladd) is released from San Quentin prison after 5 years, his only goal is revenge. He wants revenge on the man who accused him of manslaughter. Back in San Francisco, in his search for the real culprit, he comes face to face with gang leader Victor Amato (Edward G. Robinson), a ruthless man who holds an important position in the city's underworld.
