Brilliant film, 1 big puzzle and every scene you get a piece thrown at you. Very well acted by the detective and the serial killer, what a good head was on that one.. Also extremely atmospheric and calmly filmed, wonderful! This will be on again in the future to complete the puzzle..

In itself a fascinating and intriguing approach of the film to come up with a mysterious plot. The police can't make head or tail of it when a series of murders with the same modus operandi pass by, but each time it involves a different perpetrator. What's more, the perpetrator is still present with the body, but doesn't remember anything.

The explanation of all this via hypnosis was a little less to my taste and I found it too simple. Still, the film is atmospheric and intense. The main characters are well portrayed. However, I could not place everything and subsequently did not get sufficiently involved in the film. Maybe I should give this one a second chance someday.

It took years to get this Asiamania item to more or less complete the collection. In addition, Kiyoshi Kurosawa is a great Japanese director who is absorbed in his creativity. The dvd had been heavily out of print for years, for sale at top prices on Bol.com and in 2015 I almost seemed lucky when I came across the dvd in a dvd/game dump shop in Haarlem. I mean the box, because the employee could no longer find the disc because they worked with all kinds of vague codes instead of the discs simply being alphabetical. They even asked for my phone number in case they did find the disc... never heard anything again. -.-

AND then on Bol.com a reasonable price for 20 euros. And was it worth it?

The reactions are a bit poor, but I could still enjoy myself with this supernatural version of Se7en. The acting is good, the atmosphere is sunny and calm and the film meanders along nicely for its two hours. This time about gruesome murders where an X-sign is etched on the body with a knife. The murderers remember nothing, react arrogantly, in denial or go crazy with a feeling of guilt.

However, despite the film works well, you seem to overlook a lot and it often wants to become very complex. I have not really come across a clear outcome, or I have missed something. In addition, you also get a bit entangled in the many main suspects. You do not seem to be able to keep them apart anymore.

But otherwise this was like a nice old-fashioned evening of entertainment with an Asiamania title. Where I knew many of them at the age of 15, 16, 17. It is not horror nor is it scary, but a nice mysterious experiment in the early years of the fascinating career of Kurosawa.

3.5*
