Wild Hogs plot

"A lot can happen on the road to nowhere."

At the time, I saw Wild Hogs in the cinema with a good friend, and we were both laughing. Recently revised the movie again to see if it still does.

Well, I didn't laugh twice, but I still had a great time with this lame biker satire. For me it is mainly the variants on typical biker elements ( conversations about tattoos, the back patches, whether or not GPS, a fixed route or not) that make the film very good. The clumsiness with which these good men try to be tough guys is touching and perhaps just very recognizable for this not so tough biker. The theatricality that surrounds the biker scene is thus playfully ridiculed here.

Wild Hogs is just a very funny movie about 4 men with a midlife crisis who have to find their true selves again. And if that results in a film with beautiful landscapes, big engines, a lot of humor and a relaxed atmosphere, I can live with that.

Still entertaining but as 17 year old Randy I was clearly a little more charmed.

The actors have fun together and together with the soundtrack make it worthwhile, the jokes could have been a bit sharper.

From 4 to 3*

Twelve or thirteen years ago, one night it completely broke down on this film. We watched it in combination with Tarantino's Deathproof and we slowly got into a mood after which Wild Hogs was enough to cause the giggles several times. Now so many years later, and having caught a piece on TV, I expected this to be silly shit. Something that partly comes true after a review.

Nice are at least the four men who have left their wilder times behind and are in trouble with the straitjacket, boring life, disappointing life or the fact that they are under the stick. A road trip is the logical consequence where it will mainly appear that someone with a motorcycle and leather suit is not immediately a 'Biker'. And that turns out to be a good thing, because where they stand admiring life and the people before, it turns out to be nothing more than scum from the ledge without perspective or sense. The flirting cop is nice, but McGinley plays a nice but short role, the appearance of Paul Teutel can be called nice, just like the appearance of Mister Easy Rider Peter Fonda.

Yet events regularly border, or exceed, the verge of being too bland. Fumbling around Macey on his bike is fun once, but not anymore. The tent on fire is also mediocre. Just like the singing fat guy at the Chili party and the ketchup and mustard hassle against the two Del Fuegos. On the other hand, the insect hits and the crow is funny again.

Also worth mentioning are the two very nice ladies Hennessy and Tomei, great music is played with Grand Funk Railroad, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bon Jovi, Foghat and The Allman Brothers Band. All in all, it makes Wild Hogs a product that is not very nice, sometimes downright bland, but also turns out not to be stupidly annoying and actually just reasonable. But it's all too meager for a pass.
