Wally Benton is the host of the popular radio show 'The Fox', a crime-solving program. On the eve of his wedding to Carol Lambert, Wally is sent to the mansion of cult leader Joseph Jones. Although he pretends to be peaceable to his followers, Jones is in fact a criminal who does not shy away from extortion. He hopes to get his hands on a million dollar inheritance and only the rightful heir, Mr. Upshaw, still standing in his way. Jones demands Wally plans the perfect murder. Wally of course refuses, but then he finds out that Jones has kidnapped his fiancée and the daughter of Wally's sponsor.
