Whatever Works plot

"A new comedy!"

The utterly cynical Boris Yellnikoff (Larry David) tells anyone who will (or won't) his vision of the meaninglessness of life, the nonsense of religion, his theory of the universe and relationships. Then he gives shelter to the young runaway Melody (Evan Rachel Wood). She comes from an extremely conservative nest in the south of the US. He teaches her to look at life differently.

Tried this one and had fun with it. Loved the movie and the cast did a great job.

The playing time was also good, not too long and not too short.

Think it is recommended.

Initially quite flat and sexist, but gradually this turns out to be a pretty fun comedy. It takes some getting used to Larry David as a stand-in for Woody Allen, but in the end he does it okay. You just have to laugh at the stream of blunt and inappropriate observations that come out of his mouth. Gradually, the film gains momentum and the characters begin to get funnier. Ultimately not one of the better Woody Allen films, but a decent average.

Ultimately a boring Allen. The movie starts off very nicely, Larry David is well suited for such a role in an Allen movie and Evan Rachel Wood's chemistry is there too. But then the film gets bogged down in all sorts of plots (of which I have no idea what I've seen a week later) with all kinds of people who all failed to captivate me and the film goes out like a candle. 2.0*.
