The two do not know what to do and decide to pretend that Bernie is still alive and take him everywhere. The killer, thinking his attempt has failed, keeps trying to kill Bernie.

Weekend at Bernie's gets too low an average in my view. It is a fun and above all typical 80s comedy with all the strengths and weaknesses that this genre has to offer. Fun and over the top in their roles, McCarthy and Silverman manage to carry this crazy plot with great enthusiasm. The many slapstick moments with the dead Bernie might be too much, but within this film and genre it works perfectly. At times I had a good laugh about it. The film obviously has little to say and is very wrong, but sometimes wrong is very nice.

The 80s have a special place in my heart and Weekend at Bernie's occupies a special place here. When you look at this type of comedy with 80s glasses, it just lives up to all expectations. If you're too concerned with logic, the film can indeed be quite low.

3.0*

That final shot is really fantastic. Very nice!

When I first saw this film sometime in the 90s, my expectations were quite high, because of the pleasantly black premise and because I liked Andrew McCarthy in St Elmo's fire so much. However, I didn't find the weekend with Bernie half as funny as I had hoped, and attempts to give the film a second chance later failed due to the fact that I rarely saw him on Dutch TV channels. Now the latter has finally happened, and I could now have him much better: the pace is fast, McCarthy is enthusiastic and energetic, Terry Kiser and his stand-in play excellently and the jokes generally work quite well (the romantic scene in the surf!). Pleasantly surprised – now let's see if I have to wait just as long for the Weekend at Bernie's 2 telecast.
Incidentally, the two leads still appear to be active in Hollywood, albeit not at the level they might have had in mind at the time, although McCarthy has now built up a decent résumé as a director of episodes of television series. (Humor: IMDb trivia: "Body count: 1." I put this information in spoiler tags because IMDb does too...

Mediocre film in which two friends are invited by their boss to discuss a fraud case. A nice detail with the dead boss, but it takes quite a while for the film to get to that point. The scenes with the corpse are entertaining (a special role by Terry Kiser). However, the rest of the film is not much and is on the bland side.
