"The wives of Stepford have a secret."
Joanna Eberhart is the successful boss of a television station. When she is fired, Joanna collapses. Her husband Walter insists on moving from Manhattan to chic, modern Stepford, Connecticut. Once there, Joanna becomes close friends with Bobbie Markowitz, a Jewish writer and recovering alcoholic. They are annoyed to learn that all the housewives in Stepford are scary in their perfection.

What was this? Frank Oz transforms the Stepford Wives into a light-hearted and colorful comedy whose plot is so transparent that the 'mystery' can no longer be called a mystery.
You could call it a modern adaptation for the housewives audience. A nice joke here and there, and then the irritation limit of non-fun is reached. Low points of this version are the introduction of a gay couple in Stepford and of course the happy ending. Incomprehensible and astonishing.
2 stars for the entertainment factor and the colors, that Ira Levin has given permission for this...(lack of money?).

Mediocre film in which a recently fired television woman moves with her family to a perfect neighborhood. Unlike the original, this film is a bit more comical. And that in itself could have turned out well. Unfortunately it seems a bit messy (here and there seem to be missing some scenes). The whole decoration is fine and the casting is also good. There could have been more to this.
