The Full Monty plot

"The year's most revealing comedy."

Two fired steel workers from Sheffield, England, try to find a solution to their hopeless existence. Inspired by a performance by the Chippendales, they are thinking about creating a dance act where they would go for 'the full monty', a local expression for completely naked. Problem is, they can't dance and aren't exactly the sexiest guys in town. Yet they find four companions and they reluctantly begin to practice.

Revisiting one of my favorite British films. If this doesn't make you happy, then I don't know what will. Full Monty is really a suitable therapy against sadness and negative thoughts. Every time I see that movie I feel fine afterwards. One of the big pluses is that the humor is not crude and cheap, which could easily have been done in a story about unemployed people who want to bring a comic act. And that is certainly a serious threshold that must be crossed. Dave who is complexed about himself and pulls out shows a rare sensitivity in that movie. I also enjoy myself time and again with Gerald (top role of Tom Wilkinson) ... beneath his apparently serious appearance hides a hidden joke. And Carlyle of course, a good devil somewhere who's a victim of the circumstances. Add in the uplifting music and you have a real top comedy!

Already an oldie and seen quite a few times, nevertheless The Full Monty is always an entertaining and captivating film

Light-hearted yet fairly straight on, the image of the collapsed economy and unemployment is presented in Sheffield. What to do...? Isn't the question, the answer not logical, especially because of the diversity within the group, and although the image and the charm that there is of the 'normal' man, there is also the image of a very unlikely group with a bizarre ambition . An idea that is being worked towards with fits and starts and the necessary thresholds.

The charm of the film is the sarcastic English humor where especially the aforementioned, the unlikely and diverse group of men who actually have to overcome a lot to achieve a certain deed. And let's just say that's the endearment of the film. The fat ones, the old ones, the skinny ones, and so on who conquer and transcend their selves. Add to that a number of well-off actors Addy, Carlyle and Wilkinson, a fine soundtrack and some delicious scenes such as Hot Stuff in the queue, how Horse's family is having fun during rehearsal, how Gerald tries to disguise everything, Lomper blossoms and the final performance, and you have a more than fine film.

As far as I'm concerned, The Full Monty is therefore a wonderful and entertaining film, with the necessary humor, a group of excellent actors, fine music such as the swing band reggae-like adaptation of the Rocky theme and for a fine message.

A film that did ring a bell, but at the same time a film where I didn't know what it was about. The full monty is also an English expression that I had already heard of, but I didn't immediately make the connection.

It's actually a fairly light-hearted relaxed film covered in some sugar coatings. However, the men in the group have it all far from easy and unemployment and looming poverty are rampant in the impoverished working class areas of the gray city of Sheffield.

It is just well presented with a nice story, excellent casting and above all the necessary dose of (self) humour. It is certainly not a full-blooded comedy, but you can regularly find those right strings in such British films. You can best describe the film as engaging and charming. The atmosphere is just right, just like the soundtracks that have it in them to keep the ambiance in it.
