The Dish plot

"Man's first step on the moon nearly stumbled on earth."

In the days leading up to the famous July 21, 1969, the day humanity took its first steps on the moon, NASA teams up with a group of Australian engineers who made their satellite available to them. The satellite, which is located in the middle of a sheep farm, will ensure that Neil Armstrong's images can be seen all over the world. The idealism of the late 60s, the time when people could be sent to the moon. Despite the cold war and the threat of the bomb, a very positive era, in which the impossible became self-evident. That atmosphere radiates from the film, mixed with a kind of village coziness and warmth.

In it the story of the radio telescope that was used for the video images of the first moon landing. Not entirely according to the facts, but close enough that it does not disturb. Beautiful images of the dish (although with some continuity errors) and the equipment in it (with some anachronisms). But that does not matter, because the story is solid as a house. Very nicely played by the entire cast - Sam Neill is the figurehead, but does not exactly have the leading role, the colleagues and villagers are given a lot of space.

The village warmth forms a nice background for some subtle jokes about the differences between Australians and Americans. In addition to national pride, this is undoubtedly also why the film scored well in Australia. And rightly so.

Good film in which the first landing on the moon is broadcast on TV using an Australian dish. A charming film with a nice true story about one of the most watched TV broadcasts ever. The village in which this story takes place and the characters are entertainingly portrayed and therefore easy to watch.

Nowhere to stream, so I bought the DVD..... especially to show the stupid deniers something....and it did not disappoint...... For me it was very nostalgic, and therefore also moving..... experienced everything live at the time. .....at first I thought that the humor that is often terribly lame/stupid, is necessary to bring a scientific story more easily... But the film Hidden Figures, which is closely related to this, shows that this is not necessary at all. So omitting the terrible overacting for a humorous film could have really raised the level of the film, because the story itself is exciting and dramatic enough.... Especially the background that so much could and did go terribly wrong.... Just like in Rain Men and Hidden Figures, very realistic acting is a much greater contribution to a beautiful story than stupid American humor..... a shame.... But given the historical importance and the nostalgia and the beautiful drama. still a more than adequate... thanks
