"They put the ball in baseball."
It was not until after the Second World War that black athletes were allowed to participate in national sports competitions in the United States. In the 1930s, baseball player Bingo Long (Williams) is tired of being treated as a slave in the so-called 'Negro League' by Sallison Potter, the owner of his team. He decides to put together his own team and challenge others. This is not without a struggle from the ruling class.
