Tafelspitz plot

Waiting to step into her mother Karolina's restaurant, Lilli wants to stand on her own two feet for a year. She takes a job as an au pair with the Hitchcocks, an American family in Berlin. When Thomas Jefferson (Jan Niklas), Mr. Hitchcock, comes to visit, everyone is in a panic. mrs. Hitchcock can't cook and the man hates restaurants. Moreover, Thomas is out to humiliate them, as he does with all his subordinates. But the food Lilli prepares is a success and Thomas buys her from the Hitchcocks without seeing her. She travels to America with Thomas's servant William. When he meets her there, he falls in love without realizing that she is actually his cook.
