Shinboru plot

A Japanese man wakes up alone in a brightly lit white room with no windows or doors. He finds a mysterious phallic protrusion on one wall and when he presses it, a pink toothbrush materializes as if out of nowhere. This falls to the floor and bizarre developments follow. Soon the man becomes entangled in hilarious attempts to escape the room. Some seemingly random objects like: a rope, a sink plunger and an earthenware jug full of sushi could just be the key to his escape. Meanwhile, in a dusty town, a green-masked Mexican wrestler known as 'Escargot Man' prepares for an important match. His family supports him and worries about his inaction so close to the battle.

Shinboru relies too much on one gimmick to be truly entertaining. Admittedly, it's a well-thought-out idea, but it's not enough for an entire movie. Furthermore, the screaming of the protagonist was quite annoying and the Mexican part had no added value. The attempts to give the film more depth at the end came across as ludicrous. Small insufficient. 2.5*

Absurdist film that does not always rise above the level of a funny children's film. I give it an extra half point because it's a really wacky movie whose meaning is inscrutable and that's an achievement too.

Nice surreal movie! Bizarre plot and absurd story, right up my alley! Actually, you should not read the description above at all and just step into this movie. The film builds up slowly and starts somewhat serious, after which the story slowly turns into a kind of slapstick humor with a nice hazy ending. Great entertainment!
