First Dupieux.

As a director I had known him for some time and I had already seen half of Rubber a few years ago in America. Since I haven't seen the other half yet, there was no point in voting. Recently I was able to see the film in its entirety, and just like then it turned out to be a very nice and wonderfully special film.

In advance this seems to be an absurd film in the context of, for example, SyFy. Working out the most ridiculous ideas in the most serious way possible. Despite the fact that Rubber's tone can be called quite serious, the film gets its humor from the content and tone. Dupieux aims (sometimes a bit too hard) on originality and knows how to succeed in this very well.

The acting is unfortunately a bit weak with the exception of some names. The problem with these kinds of movies is that they do require good acting as they put quite a bit of pressure on the cast. Unfortunately, that cannot be accomplished in this film alone. The real star of the show is also the band. Wonderfully special appearance, in a film that succeeds in a crazy way to make this band an ideal appearance.

Visually it looks cheap, but also striking. Ideal details, strong camera work and a tone that you resist. Dupieux manages to achieve a lot with little. It just captivates and intrigues, the direction is wonderfully tight. There may not be much horror in it apart from some gory explosion scenes, but in the end it's all about the deeper layer and that works well.

A horror comedy of the most absurd kind, which also manages to draw its strength from it. In advance this seems like a film that is doomed to fail, but nothing could be further from the truth. It is a pity that the film does not really get the appreciation it deserves, because the added value of Rubber makes this film one of the most original of recent times.
