Besides the Home Alone movies, this was also a Macaulay Culkin movie that I saw a lot in my childhood.
Less memorable humor than in the aforementioned films, especially because in those films the cat and mouse game was always so entertaining to watch.
Furthermore, the fact of a bad adviser/businessman after the young boy's money is a bit cliché.
The film plays nicely on the fantasy of (American) children about what you could do if you had that much money. Examples of this are the rollercoaster in the garden, the McDonald's, the helicopter and the squads.
Less memorable and classic than the Home Alone films, but still an entertaining family film that would still be worth (re)watching these days.

Bit of an unfair average for a movie that is actually fun at times. A children's film, of course, in which friendship is presented as a greater wealth than money. Culkin is indeed not as memorable here as in Home Alone; I especially thought that credit went to Jonathan Hyde as the butler Cadbury and to that security guy Ferguson. I don't consider myself the target audience for these kinds of films, but from what I saw it was a rock-solid children's film full of fun and action. There may be better in this genre, but also much worse. This was Culkin's last film as a child star.

Separately. On the one hand, an enormous American fixation on wealth, a glorification of the wealthy, on the other hand, the family members are extremely socialist, which does not seem particularly American. Perhaps the "winners take it all" principle of the anarcho-capitalists is difficult to sell to children.

As for the movie, it's pretty predictable. Of course there is someone who wants to get hold of the family fortune. We get to see a whole range of toys for rich people, which may have been impressive at the time, but are now much more common (video calling, or tracking the father, which is now super simple with GPS for anyone with a cell phone, so basically for everyone). And you know that everything you see will eventually be used in the denouement. A cliché that already occurs with James Bond.

Nice to have seen once, but nothing more than that, because the film is also quite outdated. 1.5*.
