Funny concept.

Still, it's always something I like, such a race between adults. And with that idea, you actually know exactly what you're getting. Add John Cleese and you've made an entertaining film that doesn't excel at anything.

A good cast again, with Atkinson, Green, Cleese and more lazy. The concept doesn't look very funny, but it does more than just entertain. The antics they have to deal with produces very funny scenes and the end is another life lesson.

Nice to have seen once, yes, not more.

It must have been over 10 years since I last saw Rat Race. But I can (almost) literally recall a lot of scenes. Also because this is one of the few comedies that I have watched even more often on the first viewing.

That first viewing was with a large group of friends in the cinema. We hadn't been smart enough to decide which movie we were going to see in advance, so it became a challenge to pick one that everyone could relate to. And afraid that Rat Race would be yet another completely unpleasant comedy, I really didn't want to go there. But yeah. Water with the wine, etc. So I just adapted. And luckily. I don't think I ever laughed as much in the cinema as I did then.

Blunt jokes, absurd jokes, unexpected jokes, lame jokes, rude jokes. All kinds of humor passes in review at a rapid pace. And the vast majority of them are just really, really funny. Although humor is of course, perhaps more than anything, always a matter of taste. But the different characters who all have different bizarre adventures with the same goal have all made me laugh a lot. And that's not easy for a comedy.

I may have to give it another look soon. At the risk that he turns out to be less fun than how I remember him. But I have every confidence in it. One of the best comedies I know so far.

Exaggerating is an art. Jerry Zucker has previously proven that he masters this art as one of the best, so that even silly jokes often catch on. On the other hand, it is a pity that the film bears many similarities to similar farces and has little new to offer in itself. The edifying ending is a mistake in my view. Undoubtedly well-intentioned, but it doesn't fit at all with the preposterous scenes that precede it.
