Stanley Windrush is studying at university when he is called up to serve as an officer at the end of World War II. It soon becomes clear that he is not really suitable for that. He comes into contact with Private Henry Cox, who knows many tricks to defraud the army. Windrush's uncle, who works in the army quarters, is also involved in shady business.
