Pandemonium is a parody of a slasher. In other words: Pandemonium is a very mediocre parody of a slasher. In a thin, nonsensical story, a crazy group of cheerleaders are attacked by a killer. While watching, the viewer is bombarded with an enormous amount of slapstick, one-liners and absurd situations. Sounds nice, but it isn't. Very few moments of this comical nonsense elicit a laugh. Pandemonium is a great movie for people who find dialogue like this funny:

You are brightened of the night?

Baloney!

You are frightened of baloney?

Along the way, the film still has time to bore the viewer more specifically by parodying films like Carrie, Godzilla, and The Twilight Zone. These little parodies within the big parody are almost never funny. This makes them a perfect fit for a film that isn't either.

The line-up is not that bad with people like Carol Kane, Judge Reinhold and Tim Smothers. However, they do not provide the film with a positive boost. They are only as good as the material they work with. The fans of the terrible Paul Reuben are also in good hands. He does his character and that is of course very hilarious. Haha. I never found the man funny.

Pandemonium is a horror comedy. I wasn't impressed with the comedy. Not from the horror either. The kills are staged very weakly and all wear a funny jacket. There is no dark atmosphere whatsoever. Suspense? Tension? No, not at all. There is nothing in the film that is horror worthy. Well, except for the humor. Pandemonium is a really bad movie.

Fortunately, the tragic life of director Alfred Sole has resulted in a great film debut and that will never be taken away from him. Based on Communion I decided to play Pandemonium. The content of the film is somewhat reminiscent of the wave of parody films from the 2000s and that means that you can expect an arsenal of lame and easy jokes that are directed with considerable dedication. Sole benefits from regularly successful dry humor and some great characters (Paul Reubens), but on a structural level it is without a doubt a barely understandable film. In fact, the final plot is impossible to follow at all, but the fact that you are watching a parody film at least provides the intended context. It is a bland registration of the slasher theme that is not really sharp or original, but provides fairly clumsy entertainment. Effective on a stormy evening, but less suitable for a critical film experience. The criticism on this page is more than reasonable and in my opinion even justified, but ultimately this kind of lame humor in the right mood is quite manageable for me personally.
