Remake of 1987 Goldie Hawn vehicle with two key differences that indicate the world - and, finally, Hollywood - has changed. Anna Faris, who is very reminiscent of Goldie Hawn in both looks and comedic talent, here takes on the role Kurt Russell had in the original. Faris plays Kate Sullivan, a young widow with three daughters who not only takes care of her family and the household, but also works two jobs to keep herself financially afloat while trying to complete a nursing education. Her plans for the future seem to be shattered when her mother [Swoosie Kurtz in a thankless role], who took on some of the care of the children, leaves to pursue her stage ambitions and the arrogant Mexican (the 2nd difference) millionaire son Leonardo Montenegro [Eugenio Berbez] has her fired as a cleaning lady. But when Leo falls overboard after a heavy night of drinking on his yacht and washes ashore with no memory of who he was, Kate sees her chance and decides to pose as Leo's wife. Partly for revenge, but also because she hopes he can take over some odd jobs until she finishes her studies.
A comedy with such a far-fetched plot shouldn't be fun...but it is! That is largely due to the scenario that cleverly closes almost all potential plot holes that you think you can deduce from the trailer. Faris and Berbez are perfect and, moreover, they are surrounded by an excellent supporting cast. The humor is often very strong, but never cruel and although it is completely clear how this will end, you can still have a handkerchief ready when the big secret comes out. The only downside is the completion which is a bit rushed.

Never seen the original, but mainly watched this one because of Derbez, who seems to be a very big comedian in Mexico. The beginning with him is certainly fun, as grotesque and exaggerated his character is. Clearly a comedian with a rubbery face like Rowan Atkinson and Hans Teeuwen, who cannot be compared as comedians except in this area.
Once he's knocked overboard, things get a little less grotesque in humor, although the premise is of course a bit unusual. It still turns out to be entertaining, especially with the construction colleagues of Derbez's character, who are all played by Mexican comedians, but certainly also more sluggish.
It's all nicely put together, the acting is nice, and Faris' character is not unpleasant, but this is certainly not a great comedy. 2.5*.
