Nebenan plot
Berlin, the Prenzlauer Berg district. When this summer day is over, nothing will be the same. Only Daniel doesn't know that yet. He is as innocent as he is used to success. His loft apartment is stylish and so is his wife, and the nanny has the kids under control. Everything is in tip-top shape and he is ready to fly to an audition where the successful German-Spanish actor is waiting for a role in a superhero film. When he enters the bar on the corner, he sees Bruno sitting. It soon becomes clear that Bruno has been waiting for this moment for a long time...

Strong directorial debut by Daniel Brühl, in which he plays a sort of exaggerated version of himself. In a local bar, he has to deal with an initially rather annoying neighbor (Peter Kurth), who gradually opens a Pandora's box and turns his life upside down. Strongly acted and surprisingly structured, with alternating funny and poignant moments. Because the film takes place mainly in one location, you sporadically get the impression you are watching a stage play, but visually the film is put together beautifully enough to suppress this feeling.

Good film about a famous German actor preparing for an important audition. Good dialogue with an uncomfortable and sometimes even hostile undertone. The good acting certainly contributes to this. Perhaps a tad monotonous after the first half, but this well-structured directorial debut by Daniel Brühl certainly doesn't drag on too long.
