Just before he can go on his honeymoon with his new bride Terry, bandleader Kay Kyser is drafted into the army. Kay is placed under US intelligence officer Major Allen. It seems that the Nazi agents are exchanging secrets at the Orchid Room nightclub, where Kay's band is performing. Allen wants Kay to become a counterintelligence agent in order to dismantle the spy gang. In order not to arouse suspicion, Kay is loudly and dishonorably discharged from the army on the grounds that he is a security threat. The Nazi spy Harry Robinson learns of this dismissal and invites Kay to participate in a secret espionage assignment. Kay, meanwhile, is in trouble: no one is allowed to find out about his secret mission, not even his wife Terry, and he has to deal with the seductive contact Connie.
