An interchangeable formula film about a teenager/twenties who gets to know friendship, love and family values. Lies are told. Feelings are expressed. Yiddish songs are sung. The main gimmick is that it takes place in the Jewish-Israeli community in the Netherlands. Not that more is done with that starting point than the exotic local color of the Dutch Jewish community. Cute, doing a bar mitzvah in yarmulkes.

Mediocre. Quickly reminds of those Dutch comedies like Oppassen, it never gets funny, but it does look nice. However, those series always last less than an hour. 90 minutes is really too long. Michiel Romeyn is fine and that atmosphere around the Jewish world is quite nice, although that in itself is irrelevant. But with that atmosphere and that choice of characters, I think you could have made a series of this much better. As a film it is all a bit too thin and simply worked out. 2.0*.

During a family party on the occasion of the return of David [Ayal Oost] from Israel, it painfully turns out that his sister Moos [Jip Smit] is undervalued and goes through life almost unnoticed by her family. She set personal ambitions to take care of father Maup [Michiel Romeyn] after the death of her mother, so the family is stunned when Moos announces that she is going to audition at the Kleinkunstacademie. Although that audition fails, she manages to keep up appearances by going to work in the cafeteria of the Kleinkunstacademie. In addition, she is tutored by handsome teacher Chris [Frederik Brom]. Smit is a revelation in the title role, lending depth and dignity to her complex character. The screenplay by Gosschalk and Judith Goudsmit provides a nice insight into the Jewish community, without poking fun at it, and has a simple but satisfying denouement.
