Le Jardinier d'Argenteuil plot

Mr. Martin, also known as Tulipe (Jean Gabin) is an old man living alone in an old railway carriage in the Argentueil district of Paris. His main hobbies are gardening and painting, but he also has a secret source of income. His stepson finds out that he is also a counterfeiter who can make perfect copies of ten-franc notes. His son's girlfriend sees in this knowledge the opportunity to get rich very quickly, but then they have to get Tulipe to start counterfeiting 500-franc notes. Assuming Tulipe will agree, they already buy a new car and a luxury villa in the countryside, until they learn that Tulipe has befriended a playboy who is a millionaire.
