Well-filled parody of the gangster film/film noir, with running gags, sexual innuendos, wordplay, winks of all kinds... It takes some getting used to at first, but once you understand that it is anything but a serious film, you start to enjoy every joke, no matter how lame, that passes by. The common thread is a crime story about a sympathetic gangster, Johnny Dangerously (Keaton), who comes into the sights of his brother (Dunne), who is the DA and does not know that the most wanted criminal in the city is his own brother. Those who know his classics will mainly find a lot of stylistic features from the typical James Cagney films. It may all be a bit lame due to the outdated humor, but it is a cheerful, lively pick-me-up and not a dull, boring film. That's something too. The running gag with the newspaper vendor, the slips of Maroni's swear words and the "told me once" gag by bad guy Vermin are not something I will forget anytime soon. I also liked Marilu Henner's cleavage.

I almost gave this a two and a half but it is still fun at times, Keaton as the popular gangster does well although we see very little to nothing of the gangster life, but hey, that's what a comedy is for with occasional nice original jokes.

However, if this was made in the vein of films like Airplane or the later naked gun films, then the film fails miserably on that front. Somehow the jokes just aren't funny enough, they're too obvious, or maybe Keaton just isn't suited for that as a comedy actor.
