A corrupt magistrate is himself duped, and removed from office. He makes amends and stands up for a woman who has been wrongly accused of murdering her entire family. For this, he has to get to the capital, to request a new trial. However, there are many people who would rather not see him succeed, and everything is done to keep him out of the capital.
