Victoria Stafford (Ginger Rogers) is a wealthy young woman who has been engaged three times and changed her mind three times at the altar just before she had to say the familiar words. Determined to marry her fourth fiancé, Oliver HP Harrington (Ron Randell), she is about to say the three words. Suddenly, however, she has a vision of the lover of her dreams, George (Cornel Wilde), a fantasy she has cherished since childhood. Finally, she meets a flesh-and-blood lookalike of her imaginary lover: a rough firefighter named Johnny Blaine, who was indeed a childhood boyfriend. Although Victoria absolutely loves Johnny, the feelings are unfortunately not mutual. In addition, their completely different backgrounds are also a problem.
