Even nicer than expected! Cusack playing some sort of "washed out" and older version of his 80's characters and talking to the camera definitely works in favor of the movie and the character as well.

A nice almost Woody Allen-like story that Cusack coincidentally also made a movie with a few years earlier.

The setting is also a bull's eye for me as a vinyl/music lover and the film contains many recognizable situations.

The ending is a bit over the top, but I'll happily forgive this movie.

High re-watch level and try to score the soundtrack on vinyl.

4*

Mme.

I don't think it's a movie that will stay with me for long. It belongs to a kind of film that is quite innocent and in which the centerpiece is a Cusack whose character tries to deal with the concept of love in his own way. It is quite a chewed-out fact that is difficult to recycle.

Still, Frears manages to get a fair bit by breaking the fourth wall regularly. Not that it adds much more, but it does make the film a bit more interesting. That is also quite necessary because the rest of the film is not very interesting. It's striking how boring some side characters can be, like most of Cusack's love interests.

Other than that, I wasn't too pleased with the acting. Cusack is mainly helped by the directing, because his role does not involve much effort. It's not that he doesn't try, it's just that he can't make Rob Gordon into a memorable character. The only one I will probably remember well afterwards is Jack Black.

A film with a deeper layer and a well-running story, but few elements that will really stay with you as a viewer. Because the tempo is also quite unstable, I don't think I can give the film a satisfactory rating. Nice to have seen because of its status, but also a film that, despite some innovative elements, I forgot about it within a few days.
