Dik Trom plot

Dik Trom is a cheerful, honest, slightly chubby boy. He lives with his parents in cozy Dikkedam, where everyone is just as fat and exuberant as he is. Then Dik moves with his parents to Dunhoven, where no one is as fat as Dik. The most beautiful girl in Dunhoven is Lieve, according to Dik, but Dik is not the only one who has his eye on the beautiful Lieve. Viktor, the cheeky son of gym owner Dolf, also competes for her hand. The battle between the two ruffs will be settled during the local summer competition.

It's wonderful how Arne Toonen denounces the subject of anorexia...

No kidding, this has little to do with Dik Trom. Made up a new character. Ben Dik or something, or Remco Bol. Dik Trom is supposed to be doing mischief, being picked up by police officer Flipsen, and sitting backwards on a donkey.

The acting doesn't help either. Especially Fiona Livingston (Lieve) is heavy short. The problem remains to find good acting children in the Netherlands. Light point was Thijs Römer.

Although the peculiar world of Dunhoven is quite nice and the concept is not bad either, the modern jacket did not do Dik Trom any good, precisely because Dik Trom evokes nostalgic feelings.

2.5 pie slice.

I don't know Trom's books, although I know just enough that this film, except for the name, has nothing to do with it. Fortunately, I am not touched by nostalgia either, so I can go into it quite blank.

Incidentally, I thought it was still fun to dress up with all those fat people in one city and fit boys and girls in the other. Anyway, the production was fine. Also reminded me of that Black Mirror episode Nosedive. Not to be taken seriously, but as a parody it still works. But also really a film clearly aimed at children, in decoration and especially acting. That makes it hard for me to go along with the movie and watch the movie a little lazily from the couch, without getting involved. Acting and overall story aren't special enough either. Sometimes those kinds of films still have a nice supporting role, but that too is all a bit flat, although Römer does a good job.

I wonder if that film could still be made in 2018 in which being fat but being happy is seen as a kind of virtue. 2.0*.

When a restaurant chain offers the Trom family the opportunity to open their own restaurant if they manage to generate sufficient turnover within a certain time, they eagerly accept it. But Dik [Michael Nierse] soon notices that there is no place in Dunhoven for overweight families. In fact, the entire population is obsessed with 'eating responsibly' and exercising. While Ma Trom [Eva van der Gucht] becomes enamored with fitness trainer Dolf [Thijs Römer], Dik finds an unexpected friend in Lieve [Fiona Livingston], the exemplary slender daughter of health guru Sonja Slager (!) [Loes Haverkort] who is secretly just as fond of her. is on sweets and greasiness as Thick. Nierse is perfect in the lead role and Van der Gucht and Marcel Musters (as Pa Trom) also score high. Thijs Römer is hilarious as the avid sportsman, but Toonen leaves a part of the cast quite schmitter, including Haverkort and Plien Bennekom as the teacher. Still a charming family film with an optimistic tone and a positive message.
