Blazing Saddles plot

"Never give a saga an even break!"

The DA wants to build a railroad through the town of Rock Ridge and does everything he can to drive people out of town. The residents ask the governor for a new sheriff, but he doesn't want to sacrifice anyone. The prosecutor then gives him the idea to send a rebellious black man as sheriff and go down in history as the first governor to give a black man an important position. However, the black is significantly smarter than the villagers and has no intention of ending up between six planks.

Reasonable film in which a small town needs a new sheriff. Still a successful parody of the western. More than enough funny jokes (sometimes quite politically incorrect) and also some successful ideas. Sometimes the pace is a bit too slow, but this film is more than 40 years old.

Mel Brooks.

Blazing Saddles should have been the movie that actually made me laugh. Unfortunately, that rarely happened, and that's mainly due to the fact that the cast walking around in this film doesn't have the skills and humor to deliver the jokes well. Actually it was just annoying.

This film mainly draws its strength from moments that are very dry and contribute little to the story. Those images are scarce, because if the film often has a dry moment, it tends to circle around it for a very long time, so that the joke is completely worn out after a while.

The acting is also not good in this film, especially names like Gene Wilder were very disappointing to me. Perhaps he has become a somewhat on-and-off actor in the meantime, who unfortunately can't do much in Mel Brooks' films except deliver hysterical jokes. Fortunately, it is not as serious as in Young Frankenstein, but I have not been able to notice a single successful joke from his side.

Overall I thought it was a mediocre movie. For a kind of parody film, still beautifully decorated and grandly set up, but the sets hardly contribute to the film itself. It feels very much like a rather stage-like and clumsy film that wants to do a lot of things right but can only draw its strength from a certain number of moments. There are certainly nicer bits, but they are overpowered by the lesser jokes.
