Bernie plot

Bernie was thrown into the waste chute of an apartment building by his parents as a baby. After being removed from the garbage, he grew up in an old-fashioned and closed orphanage. At the age of thirty he decides to go out into the world to discover who he is. The paranoid and naive Bernie has made up a life story for herself along the lines of a comic strip and with the suspense of an American action film. He has saved up his pocket money for thirty years, he is brutally strong and cunning and shy like a predator that has been caged for too long. Like a drunken crusader, he travels around to find his father and mother. He does not talk, but strikes, without hesitation and with deadly result. In his fantasy they were the victims of a crime and he was kidnapped as a child instead of carelessly thrown away.

This is wonderfully crazy nonsense. Discovered it thanks to a tip from kappeuter and I enjoyed myself very much. It's not much, visually it's nothing special and it all seems rather amateurish, but I laughed...

...and good too. When Bernie goes to that house with his dad is priceless, great. First of all that shovel they sharpen on the way, then they beat everyone with that shovel (that grandma ), that woman who gets grabbed from behind in the piano and so on. Great humor. By the way, this is just one of the many moments.

I can imagine that people don't like this, but I can appreciate this humor. The fuss between the parents is also funny and Dupontel plays a wonderful role. What a character. A solid pass.

I agree with Prudh. A handful of extravagant scenes that are worth watching, and Dupontel plays a nice eccentric character, but it never goes too far. The marginal characters are a bunch of scum, sometimes nice, sometimes downright annoying and lame. As is the humor itself.

Furthermore, poorly shot, despite the cheerful camera tricks. Therefore, there is a rather amateurish tinge about the film. Incidentally, it still felt like a pretty tough sit, despite the short playing time. Barely 2.5*, for the strong Dupontel, and a sporadic funny scene.

Nice review.

To be honest, I didn't really expect it. I barely remembered anything from this film, except that it was a bit crazy. That turned out to be a fair understatement, especially in the second half the brakes come off. Certainly not a film for a wide audience, but it surprises me a bit that this film has remained so unknown.

Dupontel was smart enough to play the main character in addition to directing. Few sympathetic people here, also little sensitive humor, but it is precisely that clumsy tone that makes it (still) so funny. Audiovisually it could have been better, but fortunately there is a vision behind it. And fortunately it does not last too long. Oh no, a good reminder that I should also give the remaining Dupontel's a chance.

4.0* and an extensive review
