About a Boy plot

"Growing up has nothing to do with age."

Will is 38 but acts like a teenager. He is single, has no children and is still cool: he drives a fast car, goes to trendy clubs and knows which sneakers to wear. He has also found a perfect way to meet women: he goes to single parent meetings, where many women come looking for a nice new man, and pretends he has a child of his own. Through such a meeting, he meets Marcus, the oldest twelve-year-old boy in the world. Marcus is a bit odd: he likes to listen to Joni Mitchell and Mozart, he takes care of his mother and he's never even worn sneakers. Slowly a special friendship develops between the two.

“I am an island. I am bloody Ibiza!”

Predictable but fun English rom-com. Grant and a young Hoult have a nice chemistry and their scenes together make for a lot of fun. Despite a somewhat dark storyline about the mother of Marcus (Collette), it remains a light and smooth film that you can watch with a smile. A little more Rachel Weisz would have liked.

I'm a little surprised at the responses here. I watched the movie yesterday and was pleasantly surprised. I thought I found a bad rom-com (maybe that makes all the difference, low expectations), but the movie turned out to have depth and not at all to be standard. I can appreciate both Hugh Grant and the boy in the film and their relationship with each other.
