Soeur Sourire plot
Biopic about the legendary singing nun, Soeur Sourire. Jeannine Deckers, as she was originally called, played guitar and wrote songs, one of which, Dominique, suddenly became world famous in the 1960s and even reached number 1 in the US charts. It seemed like a fairy tale, but the lesbian Soeur Sourire actually struggled with severe depression and sought solace in alcohol and medicines.

In fact, an underrated film that shows the life of Jeannine Deckers, once world famous as Soeur Sourire, in a clever, acceptable way. Good acting, especially from lead actress Cécile de France, who gives a strong performance.

Beautiful biopic by director Stijn Conincx about “one hit wonder” Sœur Sourire”. Quite unbalanced, because the film mainly focuses on the more rosy part of Jeannine Deckers' unstable life, while the depressive part is rather fleetingly dismissed. The relationship with her friend Annie Pécher should have received more attention in my opinion.
Nevertheless, an entertaining drama that makes this review more than worth it. Her world hit “Dominique” is one of those tunes that stays in your head for a long time.

The credits already stated that the story of the film was quite inspired by the story of the real Soeur Sourire. And I already suspected that. Of course I also know the famous song. I think my parents had that picture too. But when I saw the movie, I couldn't imagine that it had happened in real life. Especially towards the end. But that does not matter. For a movie, this is a great story and that made the movie interesting enough. Although he could have been a bit shorter.
