PT Barnum was born into a poor farming family. Despite this, he led a successful life. He started as an impresario and ended up as director of the great Barnum & Bailey Circus. He wrote a book on advertising and invented the modern publicity campaign. He became a land developer, banker, mayor, but above all a true American folk hero.
