A portrait of Steven Patrick Morrissey and his early 1970s life in Manchester before becoming the lead singer of the band The Smiths. As a young man he wanted to write and sing. But then he got no further than the NME letter page and his dead-end office walls. When punk's success explodes, Steven discovers there's more to life than dark satanic mills. With the help of strong women, he embarks on a journey to discover himself in a world that tries to make him into someone like everyone else.
