Short Silly Symphony that quickly squeezed itself between Snow White and Pinocchio in '39. Last in line. Too bad Disney didn't make it into a long cartoon, it's not a very short fairy tale like Little Red Riding Hood or Princess and the Pea, there's a lot going on so it could have lasted about 80 minutes.

Don't understand the idiotic score here again.

There is only croaking, Disney compensates for the 'lack' of human language with anthropomorphic movements and facial expressions in the animals, and with music of course. Actually everything is very clear.

We follow the ugly duckling, in different phases. The images are extremely cute, adorable, funny and moving; the duckling that playfully crawls out of its egg, a little later in Narcissus position is startled by its own reflection and eventually starts to cry profusely along the water's edge... What a pathetic, heartbreaking scene, that horn sound too... beautifully done.

Disney at its best.

Predecessor of Bambi, although people here are still cautious with the 'hunting' theme; there is a scene with a decoy duck, but that's about it. There's no shooting or anything like that. Although that decoy duck says enough of course.
