Peter Rabbit plot

"Who said the countryside was peaceful?"

Modern adaptation of Beatrix Potter's children's stories. The story follows a young, rebellious rabbit named Peter Rabbit and the rivalry with his gruff neighbor Mr. MacGregor. That rivalry arose when Peter searches for a feast of vegetables in Mr. Macgregor as he tries to keep his yard free of rabbits.

Bit variable.

Film seems to want to live on the success of Paddington, but still misses a few turns. Where Paddington was mostly cute and fun in an old-fashioned charming way, Peter Rabbit tries to be a bit hipper. That combination with the British is not ideal.

The soundtrack is one to forget anyway. Some annoying pop tunes you were once glad were finally off the radio. The bickering between the rabbits and MacGregor is also a bit too sharp, so that the sweetness is lost a bit. But on the other hand, you are still dealing with a clear children's film, so it doesn't get really sharp either. Both camps are just a bit annoying, which also makes the film annoying at times.

The humor is also quite hit & miss. The dry British is sometimes quite funny, the busy stuff a lot less. There are especially some very bad running gags in it, such as the rooster. And that's how it changes all the time in the film. It's pretty fun and funny one minute, annoying and annoying the next.

The biggest fun is the "incident" regarding the food allergies. Sourpusses can always be found, it's just a bit of a shame that they get a stage so often.

2.5*

Nice film adaptation of the stories of Beatrix Potter. The combination of animation and live action works great, with stunningly realistic CGI characters. Fortunately, the 'regular' characters are also very nice. The excellent voice cast and the subdued English humor complete the whole in style.
