Isle of Dogs plot
"Welcome to the Isle of Dogs."
In Japan in the near future, an outbreak of dog attacks is underway. As a result, a corrupt mayor decides to banish all dogs to the island of trash, Trash Island. Twelve-year-old Atari Kobayashi travels to this place in search of his pet Spots and encounters a mob led by Rex. Together they embark on an epic journey that will determine the future of the entire area.

Delicious.
Nice mix between Anderson's typical style and a lot of Japanese influences. Of course there is a lot of American nonsense about cultural appropriation, the only thing you can do with that nowadays is just ignore it. If people want to moan, they should do it, but this isn't exactly a Last Samurai or Memoirs of a Geisha.
It's a great stop-motion movie, though, with a brilliant cast, Anderson's magical eye for detail, and a budget enough to make it something special. The story is fairly simple, maybe that's the only thing, but I can't really worry about that with a film like this.
Anderson seems to get even better with each film. On paper, the mix between Anderson and Japan didn't really seem to work, but the result completely contradicts that. America needs more of these directors, not less.
