After a three-year stay in Spain, Don Diego de la Vega returns to his village in Mexican California at the request of his father and is forced to discover that his region is controlled from Los Angeles by the dictatorial army captain Monastario. The corpulent and tactless sergeant Garcia has been put in charge of Don Diego's village by Monastario and his main task is to collect tax money. Don Diego decides to wear a mask and, under the pseudonym of 'Zorro', and with the assistance of his deaf-mute servant Bernardo, to free his region, village and pueblo from the tyrannical sphere of influence of Captain Monastario. In order to be and remain successful, it is extremely important for Don Diego that, except for Bernardo and his horse Tornado, no one else knows Zorro's true identity.
