Very nice.
It's been a while since a film like this has been released. At least, a film like this in all its glory, because Chinese streamers have embraced these types of films for a number of years. They may only be 70 minutes long and probably have less than a 20th of the budget, I think you can hardly find them on MovieMeter, but they are mass produced.
Still prefer this version, where no expense is spared to make everything as epic as possible. Then you have a good director in Wuershan, visually it is good and the basis (a book ala Journey to the West) also contains more than enough epic. Three films are being made in this series, especially now that the first one has done quite well.
It's not very innovative. Chinese fantasy, action, but also a lot of betrayal and fumbling between royals. A good 10-20 years ago, these types of films were commonplace, it's just nice to see a more modern update. Keep the sequels coming, you won't be bored at all.
