A quiet New Year's Eve this time: oliebollen on the table, glass of wine and a few not too difficult films (I thought) arranged. Everything turned out fine except this movie.

Even though I've seen the first part and all the Harry Potter movies, I couldn't keep up with this story. None of us managed to do that. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald turns out to be one of those films where you should preferably read in advance to understand something. And in supreme concentration and silence you have to take in the matter. Like a tricky, dry textbook. Let New Year's Eve just be a night you don't want.

The story is a mess. Dozens of characters are introduced, without giving them any background whatsoever. Moreover, the motives of the (lead) players are never really clear. There's an overdose of subplots, but none of them work out well. Scenes are often chaotic and dark, making everything even worse to follow. Even in the climax, director Yates does not manage to get one whole. In all it seems like a cliffhanger for the next three parts.

Some actors (Jude Law) come out well and some special effects are well done. However, as a whole this is the worst movie in the HP universe. 2**

1* en for the graphics.

Nice pictures and special effects, but that's about it. The story is boring, long-winded and incoherent. Ask me to summarize the story in a few months and I will know nothing more about it. Had to fight several times not to fall asleep. I just read part one on wikipedia, because had also seen this one and didn't know what it was about anymore. Actors also have no character. The little humor has not succeeded and the attempt to bring in romance has not succeeded either. Oh yeah and it's about magic, some spells and magical creatures...

Have seen the two seasons of "The Magicians". Much better.

This movie just has no atmosphere... Two hours of wasted time.
