Échec au Roi plot

Madame de Maintenon wants her protégé Jeanne de Pincret, who lives in Saint-Cyr, to marry the Viscount Haussy de Villefort. Louis XIV advises her to marry an older man instead, the Duke Montgobert. When Jeanne discovers that the Viscount is being frivolous and having an affair with an actress, she is furious with him and abandons him. The latter then enters into a duel with Mongobert.
