Circles in a Forest plot

Saul Barnard grew up in a family of lumberjacks. The woodcutters are afraid of the elephants in the forest, but there is one elephant who never seems to threaten Saul. Tired of being exploited by timber merchants, Saul sticks to his position and is chased away by his father. He goes to work for the timber merchant MacDonald and falls in love with his daughter. After a few years he leaves MacDonald and joins the first prospectors in the forest.
