Raw. Very raw.

Let me start with the film's flaws. The dialogues made no sense at all. The writers tried desperately to throw in a lot of catchy one-liners, but that didn't work out very well. The story was a bit choppy and sloppy, I couldn't feel any sympathy for the characters and it just went on way too long. The script just wasn't quite right.

The cast was very good though. I just said I couldn't empathize with the characters but that was just because they were all jellyfish, it was definitely not the acting. The actors played very convincingly.

To be honest, I wasn't really looking forward to the juiciness of Alexander's love life, which invited everyone and everything to his room. At least that's how it came across... That sort of thing just isn't for me.

The action scenes were pretty intense. I do like an action movie, you name Gladiator, Braveheart and such.... But where in a lot of 16+ action movies there is mainly a lot of camera shake and you hear Wilhelm screams but in fact see little, this was very raw and rough in image brought. Many times you saw an arm or head flying through the air and the blood spatter was almost on your clothes. Was a bit too raw even for me.

Alexander would have been better in my opinion if our Alexander the Great hadn't been portrayed as a weirdo. There is far too much tragedy. This will definitely appeal to the Alexander lovers, but I would have preferred a higher popcorn content where you could enjoy more laid back. Just not my cup of tea. Alexander tries too much, wants too much, but takes too long and falls far short of the newly named Gladiator and Braveheart. Too bad, there could have been a lot more!

Well, a lot of pluses and minuses. I arrive at a 3.0 to 3.5*

Still 3.5 for the excellent acting.

Truly a GREAT movie from Oliver Stone. I have to say that I'm not exactly a fan of OS... I usually find his films rather typical... Films that normally don't suit me..... And they say that Alexander was not a success in America, but in Europe yes....

But for me personally it is his only successful film and for me an absolute hit. I have not seen the revisited version. I would like that.

But I already love this version.... Everything is SO beautifully portrayed. The actors are all great. Catching the story. The camera work is AMAZING....

And then that film also has the (for me) MOST BEAUTIFUL film scene of all time....... The prancing Frisian opposite the prancing elephant.... No scene as beautiful as this one......

I think the movie MEGA... Sooooooooo great.... And by the way Colin Farell looks great in this movie... Really to eat haha.

The music of Vangelis should have received an Oscar for me, just like with Chariots of Fire.

Tried the directors cut once and it actually turned out better than expected. I'm not really into historical spectacle action films, but here the emphasis was much less on action, but much more on the historic/the man himself, which I thought was a relief.

Despite the film being about 2 and a half hours long, it didn't bore me.

In the end I'm glad I took the plunge, I thought it was worth a look.
